The food pusher
We all have them in our group of friends, and very often it is our mother! And this person loves us very very much! So what do we need to understand about these people? From what I read from Phil's book, there are two sub pushers:
1. the "need to be approved" pusher
2. the "nourishing" pusher
The first person suffers by his or her own low sense of self esteem, usually they are not even aware of it. To gain your approval, friendship, love, which to them are all signs of being worthy and having value, they lavishly offer you food galore; ÿou just have to try my home made cinnamon rolls!"
The second person is often your mother, or someone who has adopted that role. These people have not stopped loving the child, a child they used to stuff full of goodies (essentially "food in wrong quantaties at wrong times"). And are unable, ore have simply not adjusted their image of you as an adult, who does not need any feeding a nourishing to grow up to be big and strong. It is essentially their way of loving you, just as they did when you were a child.
Sound familiar to you? To me it does. My mother died some 10 years ago, but she was defenitely a the "nourishing" pusher. She would smother me in food just to love me. *smiles warmly*
As for the first one, I just realised something. I AM A the "need to be approved" pusher. WOW, that is quite a realisation. I have noticed it off late that I sort of drown my geusts in food, sumptious, rich, fatty, sugary, creamy food items. And I push them to take more! I do, I really do. How is that for a revelation.
Christmas changed.....
The advantage of this self appraisal, which was not intended I will ahve you know, is that I can make a difference this Christmas. Although honesty told, I have already changed, for my food items are healthy usually. But I could bring the quantity down.
Tomorrow, on to the Control Freak
Oh yes and it was weigihing day yesterday, I lost 0.7 lb. Not much but still a satisfaying result, if I look at my antics for last week. As for my Christmas challenge? I have another 15.8 lbs to go in 7 weeks. 2.3 lbs a week..now there is a challenge!
